Parent Autism Training Program

In 2023, the CDC reported that approximately 1 in 36 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. Autism affects all ethnic and socioeconomic groups. Early intervention affords the best opportunity to support healthy development and deliver benefits across the lifespan.

Parent training—in which providers teach parents intervention strategies to promote their children’s skill development and behavior management—is considered a best practice in the treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder and yet is underutilized in community settings.

Masonic Children & Family Services of Texas is proud to partner with the Child Study Center in Fort Worth and the University of Houston-Clear Lake to provide FREE intensive parent training programs.

The Child Study Center and the University of Houston-Clear Lake clinics focus on children with autism who may struggle with noncompliance, tantrums, property destruction, self-injury, aggression, or food refusal. This program is fully funded by MCFS, so these lifechanging services are provided to parents at no cost. The primary goal of this program is to teach parents effective ways to manage their children’s problem behavior effectively.

DURING THIS TWO-WEEK INTENSIVE CLINIC, PARENTS ARE TRAINED TO:

  • Deliver behavior-specific praise
  • Manage non-dangerous problem behavior
  • Give clear instructions
  • Activate effective communication techniques
  • Follow through instructions when the child is
    non-compliant
  • Effectively implement a timeout
